The Ellis Bio Story:
Where Innovation Meets Discovery
Founded in 2023
Ellis Bio is a biotechnology tools company driven by a vision to revolutionize genomic technologies and make cutting-edge epigenomic tools accessible to researchers and clinicians worldwide. Our journey began within the vibrant scientific community of The University of Chicago, where one of our flagship technologies—the SuperMethyl ™ Fast kit—was first developed by Scientific Founder Prof. Chuan He and Dr. Qing Dai.
Why Ellis Bio?
The name “Ellis Bio” is derived from Ellis Avenue, a street that runs through the heart of the University of Chicago campus, an institution that enjoys the prestige of educating and employing numerous Nobel laureates. Ellis Ave represents more than just a location—it marks the intersection of dedicated science and innovative thinking. Ellis Avenue borders the site of the very first nuclear chain reaction in 1942. Ellis Ave also runs through the heart of several medical, biology, chemistry, and physics research labs. Currently, Ellis Bio’s Scientific Founder Prof. Chuan He’s laboratory can be found at the corner of Ellis and 57th Street. It was here that our founding team developed a pioneering bisulfite conversion technology, raising the standard for precision and performance in DNA methylation analysis.
The foundation of Ellis Bio
Ellis Bio’s Scientific Founder Prof. Chuan He and his team are at the forefront of advancing the fields of epitranscriptomics and epigenomics. Prof. He holds the title of John T. Wilson Distinguished Service Professor at the University of Chicago and serves as an Investigator with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI). His groundbreaking research on RNA and DNA modifications has earned international recognition and led to the development of some of the most advanced molecular tools in use today. In recognition of his pioneering contributions, Prof. He was honored as a 2023 Wolf Prize Laureate and was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2024.
Ellis Bio’s new bisulfite conversion kits represent the culmination of years of research, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in epigenetic studies, empowering scientists and healthcare professionals to unlock new insights in cancer detection, aging, and beyond.
